Be Inspired – Justine O’Neill and how swimming helps her with anxiety and depression

Justine O’Neill Risk & Insurance Consultant for Zurich Insurance, she talks through overcoming a nervous breakdown, and how the Her Spirit community helps her.

My biggest setback that I have overcome is severe Anxiety & Depression following a nervous breakdown in 2019. 

I have had lots of counselling and medication. I still have a way to go but I am much improved especially since joining Her Spirit.

My husband has been an absolute rock. I have a close-knit circle of friends who have given unwavering support and joining Her Spirit was a significant turning point in my recovery.
Her Spirit has introduced me to like-minded people and offered me support and an incentive to focus on myself.

Be kind to yourself.

My biggest motivation in life is to not let the past rule my future. I am working on a work-life balance as I have seriously struggled with this before my breakdown.

I am learning to try and make time for myself and using emotional freedom techniques to deal with the symptoms of anxiety. Swimming, cycling and being in the fresh air is what makes me feel good.

I fuel myself with whole food. My favourite dishes include a plateful of roast Mediterranean vegetable with grilled salmon fillet or spaghetti with broccoli, mushrooms, black olives and feta.

Her Spirit

The support and camaraderie from the Her Spirit community is immense. If you are feeling low the group picks you up, you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone but everyone understands.
